EastEnders is the BBC's flagship soap, it was first broadcast in 1985.
Set in East London in the fictional Albert Square, it centres around the lives of people living on the square and the surrounding area.

The Queen Victoria Pub is central to the lives of the people on the square.  The first landlords of the Queen Vic were Den and Angie Watts, but barring a few minor players the Mitchells (for the most part) have been, in one way or another, in charge of 'The Vic'.

Den, Angie and Sharon Watts (pictured left) were one of the most famous families in the square.  Tales of Den's infidelity and Angie's drinking dominated the late 80's era, although Den and Angie only appear for a few years they reached iconic status among fans of the soap.

Sharon Watts appeared in the soap on and off for approximately 20 years and helped to bring the Mitchells to the forefront.

Although not the first of the Branning clan to arrive on the square, in recent years Tanya and Max Branning (pictured right)have certainly made the biggest impact.  Serial cheat Max had a rather seedy affair with his son's ex girlfriend and even attempted to seduce her on her wedding day.  Driven over the edge by his betrayal Tanya buried Max in a coffin in the woods, before later releasing him.  Max now driven to the same depths by Tanya's relationship with his brother Jack, is attempting to send his brother to jail by setting him up with the help of Phil Mitchell.  The Brannings take 'keeping it in the family' to a whole new level.
Vying with the Brannings (but losing at the moment!) for the prize of being the largest clan in the square, the Mitchells have been been a presence in Albert Square since the 1990's.  Serial groom Phil (picture right with brother Grant) has been married many times, his marriage to Kathy Beale means he is now related to Ian Beale who he detests with a passion, and takes pleasure in dunking Ian or scaring him at any opportunity.

The Beales have appeared in EastEnders from the beginning, and Ian Beale played by Adam Woodyatt is the sole remaining character from the first episode.  Ian is another serial groom, who drives women to attempt homicide and flee the country!
